There are several national parks in all around Sabah. Kinabalu Park & Poring Hot Spring Parks are the two most favourable parks near Kota Kinabalu. Each park exhibits different attractions. We hope you will find the following information useful.
1. Where are the parks?
Kinabalu Park is situated two hours drive away from Kota Kinabalu. Whereas, Poring Hot Spring Park is another hour away (3 hours drive from Kota Kinabalu).
2. What does Kinabalu Park offer?
The park serves as an entrance to the mountain climb. Other than that, there are 8 different hiking trails within the Park. You may enjoy hiking in the misty rainforest. And when the weather is great, you may sight the majestic peaks of Mount Kinabalu.
2. What does Poring Park offer?
Speaking from own experience, we think that Poring Hot Spring Park has more on its plate. The park not only has hot spring bath or pool, but also rafflesia garden, botanical garden, bamboo garden, waterfalls, canopy walk and hiking trails too.
3. Can I do a day trip?
Yes. Most of our guest spend a full day exploring the park. However, if you wish to explore both parks in a day, you might need to plan ahead and review your transportation options.
4. Do I need to book a tour?
There are several options and each suits different needs. You may refer to the following recommendations.
5. Day Trip via tour company
If you would like to have a hassle-free day trip in which land transfers, park entrance fees, lunch and etc are well taken care of, you may consider booking a day trip at RM190/pax.
6. Day Trip via public transport
You may visit Kinabalu Park via public transport with min spending of RM65/pax. You will be spending RM25 one way for shuttle van transfer and RM15/pax for park entrance fee. The shuttle van runs daily between 7am to 4pm. The shuttle van only departs whenever it is full with seven passengers.
7. Two Parks Day Trip via public transport
If you plan to visit two national parks, the min spending is RM160/pax. You will be spending RM100/pax for shuttle van and taxi transfers, RM15/pax for park entrance fee and RM5/pax for specific gardens entrance fees. The shuttle van runs daily between 7am to 4pm. The shuttle van only departs whenever it is full with seven passengers.
6. Day Trip via rental car
If you hold a driving license and wish to visit both parks at your own pace and time, we would recommend you to rent a car. This option is also great if you are travelling in a group of two and more. So, you may share the cost of rental and gas. You will be spending RM140/day for car rental, RM50/day for gas, RM15/pax for park entrance fees and RM5/pax pecific gardens entrance fees.
